Primarily it's symbol based *NOT* Broadcom. A "Centrino" Laptop is the new Pentium M based chipset (855)+ Intel wireless card. No Intel wireless card means it's not considered a Centrino. They also offer some laptops with Cisco, and some with an Atheros chipset dual-band NIC. T30's use either the Cisco, or an Intel mini-combo modem/Intersil NIC. -Tony -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org [mailto:owner-freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org] On Behalf Of Kevin Oberman Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 5:19 PM To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD Vs ThinkPad T40 or R40? > Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 16:55:39 -0400 > From: Peter Radcliffe > Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org > > Kevin Oberman probably said: > > The internal modem is the newer ICH version of the Lucent WinModem. > > To this point I know of no support for it under FreeBSD. At least they give you the option of buying systems with Cisco cards, as well, but the default is the Intel. There is a Linux driver for this chip and someone very recently said that they were trying to adapt it to FreeBSD. R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O.
