Result: The issue was not with the 8416 and presumably the 8216 as well, but rather was an issue with the releng4.freebsd.org not being available .... Suppose one should not assume anything.... although the diagnostics surely did not look like a refused login... sigh A message from Jordan this morning said the problem with releng4 was fixed.
