What type(s) of file(s) are you trying to print?  Does it only happen with
certain file types?  It may be a problem similar to Windows, where you have
to specify options such as printing SPOOLED or RAW or something.  Perhaps
repost with more information, and the line from `dmesg -a` about your
printer and/or parallel port.
