The original version of the patch that is in this bug report (bug #256722) = also adds missing return value checks and other checks that might help detect so= me potential problems. Those were not upstreamed. FreeBSD stable/13 and stable/14 don't have this patch, but it shouldn't be necessary unless the user (or the auto-selection algorithm) selects to copy= the kernel to the staging area.
