Subject: Panic, cannot mount root?

I was doing pretty good on my installation until I got the msg. at the
end of my first reboot after the installation, following the (F)Disking
and (A)ssigning. I got the msg. "panic: cannot mount root Automatic
Reboot in 15 seconds, press any key on the console to abort"
This came after it prompted me for a different boot location, because
I put everything on my second drive, hd1/wd1. patitions are setup as
follows:
  a /var (10 megs)
  b swap 20 megs
  e /usr (100 megs)
  g / (20 megs)
  h /usr/x11r6 (50 megs)

All on hd1/wd1. Yes, I followed the directions in
Troubleshooting, but it didn't work when I put in hd(1,a)/kernel at
boot. I then proceeded to try hd(1,b,c,d(etc))/kernel until
hd(1,g)/kernel worked, and I at least got some kind of response.
Everything went fine, so it seemed, until I got the aforementioned
message. Help! If this should be directed somewhere else, I'd be happy
to, tell me where! =) I just saw this in the RELNOTES file, and tried
it. thanks for any info...
