Well, the interconnect to your desk is not shared, but congestion can occur anyplace other than that and it's all shared from that point. FWIW, while with @Home I regularly checked performance and never saw a DL speed less than 1 Mbps from a well connected net that peered with @Home. Typical was about 3 Mbps. That means I was getting the same UL speed and usually more than triple the DL speed of that "private" DSL link (assuming the standard "home" connection at 384/128. At this rate I could not see ANY justification for DSL (actually it's usually ADSL) when they actually charge you more for it than the cable AT&T did. Unfortunately, ATT Broadband has not performed as well as @Home did. I have seen speeds of as low as 64 Kbps since they took over, although it seems better, now.
