Incompatibility with the video card is not the fault of the operating system, it is the fault of the window system. (In this case, XFree86). The answer to your question can be found at: http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/index.html#OtherOptions A list of chipsets supported by XFree86 can be found at: http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.2/README3.html I recently purchased a video card for my computer, and I chose the S3 ViRGE because it was one card I knew XFree86 supported.
