Well, contrary to the pcm manpage, the Yamaha YMF719 doesn't "Work perfectly in all modes", it might be better to say, "Almost works in some modes, but probably not reliably". Heck, I think I did a pr for this about 18 months ago, I've tried to get chipset specs out of yamaha (they promised that they were "in the post") and I've tried voxware, pcm and OSS. OSS works sometimes, but expect some panics as apparenly OSS isn't able to detect anything with a 719 in it. [But, Windows 98 is wonderful with it, Windows 98 detects it with microsofts drivers, windows 98 doesn't whine that it doesn't know what to do with the YMF 719 chipset - so I put it in a Windows box - Windows boxes are FAR BETTER at dealing with sound cards - I'm writing this because I'm hoping someone using google or deja news will come up with this post and choose Windows instead of FreeBSD if they have this soundcard. Honestly I would rather wish that on them than have to face 18 months of pretty much zero response on what to do with a card that is documented as "WORKING PERFECTLY" - yes, I've tried two of these cards.] Anyway, as far as fxtv, I'll try it out next week with my new soundblaster 16 pci, which appears to work better - but it was just trying to video encode the audio output and audio encode the video output - I just wondered if anyone else had noticed the same problem. Steve P.S. Sorry for the rant - it's my last post about the YMF719 - perhaps the chipset will die out or perhaps the driver will get fixed. I can mail the card to someone who wants to try and work it out if they want it. To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message
