As others mentioned one of the easy ways to get mail is to use fetch.

To send mail you need a program such as pine, elm. You can check the
ports/packages.

For quick email tests you can use
"mail <file email_Address"
"mail email_address"

The first format reading a file, will send the content of a file to the
email address
the seconf format will ask you for subject and give you where to type
the message. To end put a "." (period)

If you have X installed you can also get programs that can directly get
mail from a POP3 server and not need to use fetch.
