OS: FreeBSD 4.1
HW: local IBM PC 365, a PPro 200
remote IBM PC 365, a PPro 200
This question was prompted, in part,
by Lehey's book, "The Complete FreeBSD".
I am trying to do a network NFS install.
FYI, I've been running FreeBSD since 2.1
though this is the first attempt at a network
install.
Remote: NE2000 card over RG59 coax,
mounted CD-ROM with Ver 4.1, CD #1.
local : NE2000 card over RG59 coax.
The problem is that when I select a NFS install,
the screen that is presented to me to choose from,
only lists PPP and SLIP, both being serial port
methods. Thus, if I chose one of them, things
don't work as I have no serial port connectivity
betwixt the machines - just the ethernet coax.
Am I ignoring something? It seems that the
OS should detect the ethernet card and ASK me
to enter either the IP address or the fully
qualified domain name of the remote. Additionally,
it should ASK the remote's device name. E.g.,
UrsaMax.Ursa.com:/mnt/cdrom - the remote.
Any help getting this to work will be appreciated.
