The reason is that upon the installation time the directory /usr/X11R6/lib/firefox/extensions is not created. >How-To-Repeat: Install Firefox from port on the system without any versions of Firefox. Run 'firefox'. It will exit soon without any messages (if you're using non-debug version). Create /usr/X11R6/lib/firefox/extensions. Start Firefox.
