Which version of Word was the save and which version are you using to open it?

What do you mean when listed in Windows98 and what is arch?

I would advise against this, as mounting and not using "ro" (read-only) may
cause further troublem with the file.  Do you have an untouched backup on
the HD?

It suggests using the file open dialog to locate the doc and checking the file's and disk's permissions. (Other Word docs on the floppy will open byt the way.) If I try to follow the advice, I get `Explorer performed an illegal operation and will be shut down'.

Restart the PC.  Try opening the document on a different Window$ PC.
