I understand that there are a lot of people still using 2.2.X machines, many of them in mission-critical applications. That's why I insisted that we keep supporting 2.2.X for so long. (Hey, how many of you noticed that 2.2.X was still supported by the ports team for almost three months after the final release (2.2.8)? You should have been there to listen to them grumble when I announced *that* plan. :) The issue here is simply that we do not have enough people to work on three branches. We're already stretching our human resources pretty thin with two; it's just not possible with three. Also, we're asking the port submitters a huge favor by requiring them to ensure that a port works on more than one branch. We can't keep doing that for a branch that is being obsoleted pretty soon for ordinary users. So, unless some of you come forward and say "Me!!! I'll take care of the 2.2.X ports!!! I'll build all the packages and fix the errors!!!" or you mission-critical types come up with enough $$$cash$$$ so we can hire someone to work full-time on 2.2.X ports only for the next few months, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about it. ;) Satoshi (and the unfatigueable ports team) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
