The problem is that the code will try to fclose /etc/netgroup without actually having fopened it in the case where /etc/netgroup doesn't exist. (fclose(NULL) ==> SIGSEGV) There is a simple workaround which is to create an /etc/netgroup file that is empty (touch /etc/netgroup) or that has only a single plus sign ('+') in it.
