You'll have to excuse my ignornance with the following question. Although I've used pppd for quite some time, I've never used either PAP or CHAP, so I'm going to be a little slow. I have the option of using either PAP or CHAP. My call. I've been instructed that my authentication will be set up in such a way that the fields (ie - secrets, username, password, etc) will all be "test". I've read through the PPPD man page, and it has told me, for CHAP, that I need to create an /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file, which should contain the the client name, the server name, and the secret. I've also been told by said document that the client and the server name can be * to be global. Therefore, I tried to create a file that reads: * * test which should be ok. I then run pppd with +chap -pap. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to authenticate me. I do not want to authenticate the other side of the connection, as I know that it will always be valid. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this correct? If someone could let me know, I'd appreciate it. -Brian
