Hello!

If I have an application that uses PAM to authenticate, and /etc/pam.conf
is something like:

myapp auth required pam_unix.so
myapp account required pam_unix.so

where "myapp" is the "service name" for PAM.

My question is; must "myapp" be run as root if it wants to successfully
authenticate with pam_uix.so? I am asking because pam_unix.so uses
getpwent() to get the encrypted password, right?

TIA for any help.

reg.
