I've written a Perl 5 script that checks the installed version of ports/packages against an index file (a la /usr/ports/INDEX, or the on-line equivalent) to see which ones might be out of date. I'm not real proud of this quick hack, but if it'd be useful to anyone, I've put it at: http://www.ca.sandia.gov/~bmah/pub/pkg_version/ If something like this already exists, and I just didn't RTFM closely enough, well, at least I learned a little more about Perl...
