At least one and I think two other reported the problem on Gnome built from ports. In my case, I only see the slow startup, not the crashes. Others have reported that the crashes happen only when starting from GDM. Those using startx seem to only have the slow start. The issue of not talking to the session manager was fix for two of us by changing .xinitrc to use: exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session I was using "exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session" when I was getting the messages. Here is the console log of my X startup. Some of the errors are in applications and clearly not related to the delayed startup of the panel.
