Winmodems are DSPs with software to perform modem functions. A neat
idea in concept, but it seems to be very flawed in execution.

The actual name "WinModem" is a trademark of 3Com and is technically
not applicable to non-USR/3Com modems.

Drivers for at least IBM and Lucent "winmodems" are available for both
FreeBSD and Linux. The IBM one is in the ports collection and there has
been talk of adding the Lucent one (by far the most common) to the
base system.

The real problem is that it includes a binary module from Lucent and
that is a bit tricky to include in the FreeBSD build system. I don't
have the reference to the web location for the Lucent driver, but it
has been posted here on more than one occasion.
