In the interest of bandwidth I have created a site (http://testbed.baileylink.net/~brad/ida-debugs/) for the information that I have gathered, including my dmesg, sysctl -a, and uname -a. If you need more information I will gather it. Here is my config: Compaq 1600R 1 Pentium II 450 320MB RAM 1 Compaq SMART ARRAY 3200 2 Compaq Hot Swap Drive 9GB 10K RPM the drives are configured RAID level 1 The problem manifested itself like this... I ftp'd the ports.tar.gz from several ftp sites all of them giving me an error similar to this when I tried to unpack them with tar -xvzf ports.tar.gz: gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated tar: Unexpected EOF on archive file tar: child returned status 1 if I try gunzip ports.tar.gz I get: invalid compressed data--format violated If I make md5 hashes during this whole process I keep getting different values. I can also sometimes change the md5 just my doing a sync. For more information look at the script labeled md5-script.txt I have downloaded this file on a different machine and determined (through md5) that the file that I have downloaded is good. (more info in md5-script.txt) If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
