Hi steve;

i think that if it followed style police guidelines, that would be an
improvement, all indents are tabs, no 4char indents to be found, methinks!

this isn't really for commit purposes, this is for comprehension purposes,
so i am probably stuck doing this and then just keeping it around as a
reference...well commented beasty that it is (not!)
