IMO the ports tree is there to provide useful applications to the
FreeBSD user base, not to provide a space to teach or to give
opportunities to learn how to program in C. If people want to show or
document how this is done, why not put it up on a web page.

I am not adverse to teaching people or to sharing. For that matter a
big chunk of my time as a group leader at work is spent teaching others
about UNIX and of late, teaching has become one of the more rewarding
areas of my job. However adding a port to the ports collection is not
the right vehicle to teach how to do a certain thing under C or any
other language for that matter. I just think that there are other ways
to share that should be explored.
