Thanks, imported. I made massive changes though, highlights:
(1) Install everything under /usr/X11R6 instead of split with /usr/local.
(2) Use "0.0" instead of "0.75a" for shlib version, the "a" confuses
our linker and we can't keep the numbers in sync anyway.
(3) Compiles with -O but can be changed to -g easily (it's in the
toplevel Makefile).
(4) Do not make lib*.so symlinks, our linker doesn't need that.
