That's a separate issue, since 'lptest > /dev/ulpt0' doesn't go anywhere near lpd. Some HP printers will flash an LED when they are receiving data, so you could look for that. Or it might be that the printer won't print anything until it gets a form feed, so you could send it one afterwards: perl -e 'print chr(12)' > /dev/ulpt0 -Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota USA
