Honestly, I doubt you even need or want 32 bit color, 24 bit color is often faster. Any ideas > on what a high performance multimedia player might be? ports/graphics/mplayer Be sure you have XVideo support enabled on your card (if supported). You can run xvinfo to see for yourself. Also, I'd reccomend upgrading to XFree 4 if you are still using XFree 3.3.6. XFree 4 is faster for day to day work than XFree 3, and it supports almost as many cards as XFree 3 does (and the unsupported ones are usually ancient). If you can't get Xvideo working, you might want to do a google search for the GATOS project.
