You want to get the des distribution from ftp.international.freebsd.org (in South Africa) Run /stand/sysinstall Go to post install configuration Go to distributions I think it pretty much explains itself from there. I gather the lack of documentation on this is probably related to USA crypto law. You can run FreeBSD itself without DES, but there's lots of programs that expect to find it, so it's best to get it.
