Those who get as far as finding the Handbook probably don't ask the
daftest questions, in general :-)


Jordan, 
I suggest you shrink your posting, & create a src/README with it,
to define what {current, stable, snap, release} all are,
& what is expected of the sources _and_ the users.

So we can in good conscience cry `RTFM', the README should have URLs :

Almost every piece of free software has a README to get one started ...
FreeBSD in src/ does not, currently, its a missing link we could easily fill.
