Disabling "WITH_BSD_GREP" and re-building world/kernel was insufficient for solving my problem. I was able to get it built with: "make USE_GCC=any -DNO_CCACHE -C lang/gcc". However, prior to re-building world, "make USE_GCC=any -DNO_CCACHE" had no effect in getting lang/gcc built (would still fail on my system).
