The lower the version of FreeBSD, the more these deivces are required to adhere to the specification to work (most do not strictly adhere). The higher the version of FreeBSD, the more forgiving the driver is when the manufacturer goes off into the weeds. So, one question: 1) How far off into the weeds is your drive manufacturer? And one suggestion: 1) Make the floppy, boot it, and see what it says.... 2.1.5 is not as forgiving as more recent versions, but it will work with a lot of hardware.
