I found out that the documentation here:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/carp.html

is no longer correct with 10.0 released.

I don't believe it's a bad thing to have it described "the old way" (lot's of 8.x and 9.x installs out there, after all, including my own) - there just should be some sort of preface that states it is not how it's done with 10.0
