The libraries API has changed incompatibly. Actually this doesn't help libpam.so.1, because the new pam modules (pam_*.so) do not work with it. Which means you need to recompile the programs linked with it, such as sudo, xdm, and the X server. As a workaround, you can overwrite libpam.so.1 with libpam.so.2 and everything should work fine.
