This is because the real readline is in the base system. So there is no need for a compatability layer. If there are license issues with cad/ngspice, then the authors of ngspice need to change the code to use libedit. Otherwise ngspice needs to depend on readline. I might find some time to adapt your patches to meet some of the criteria that I noted previously (since you've expressed disinterest in taking this on yourself ( no biggie.. It's just a time management thing) -Phil.
