Hi, whenever I try to dial my ISP using either kppp (kde's version of ppp) or the command line ppp, I can never connect or even hear my modem dialing. I know that my modem is connected to the computer correctly and I know that the system recognizes my modem. For some reason however, ppp will not work. I know that the system recognizes my modem because when I activate it using ppp, the terminal light on it comes on. My modem is a 56k 3com / us robotics external fax modem. What happens when I activate my modem using the command line ppp is, after about 10 seconds or so, I get a message saying "Chat Script Failed" when I activate my modem using kppp, it tells me that the modem is not responding. Now I know that my modem is on the right port number (it is on cuaa0) because the terminal ready light comes on. So in other words, my computer can send commands to my modem but for some reason, my modem is not sending anything back (at least thats what I think is going on). I am thinking this may be an irq problem but then again I do not know much about irq conflicts or any of that. But, can someone help me out here because I do not know where to begin on getting ppp to work. Below is a copy of my ppp.conf file, I have removed my username and password for obvious reasons. ################################################################# # PPP Sample Configuration File # Originally written by Toshiharu OHNO # Simplified 5/14/1999 by wself@cdrom.com # # See /usr/share/examples/ppp/ for some examples # # $FreeBSD: src/etc/ppp/ppp.conf,v 1.2.2.1 2000/08/18 08:33:02 jhb Exp $ ################################################################# default: ident user-ppp VERSION (built COMPILATIONDATE) # Ensure that "device" references the correct serial port # for your modem.
