I don't think this is the case. It shouldn't be...
But MC can test that using ifconfig -l

I have 6.1-PRERELEASE #3, compiled on Feb 14, and it works for me...
I have:
ifconfig_fxp0="inet 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0"
ifconfig_fxp0_alias0="inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.255"

try ifconfig -l
