 This should have no effect on either probing of the keyboard hardware or
 anything else for that matter.  The only differences between the two types
 of keyboards is the pin configuration.  I am successfully using a keyboard
 with a PS/2 connector on it with a PS/2->DIN adaptor.  It's an M$ Natural
 keyboard of all things evil, too.  Were you moving the SAME keyboard(s)
 around to the different machines when you tried all these installs?
