I run some extremely old hardware at home so performance is a major factor for me. I was running 4.2 for a while then last week I had given the Mandrake 8.1 distribution a shot, and after 1 day I was fed up with the amount of time it took to boot and decided to install Freebsd 4.4. It was like night and day. I have been running Freebsd since the 2.1 release and I have just learned my lesson. I doubt if attempt linux again. Nice Job folks!
