So far I have a "trainer" system running nicely on an old 486, and have been having a ball! We are setting up our own web server to host sites presently hosted with commercial hosting services, and need to buy a new machine for this. We will use FreeBSD/Apache (or probably Stronghold for SSL). I want a relatively high-end machine to support growth, and because we expect to have a lot of CGI/API usage in the future. Since my partner has a love affair with Dell, it looks like we will use a Dell XPS R400, 128 or 256MB ECC 100MHz SDRAM, 10GB Ultra ATA IDE (probably with a Duplidisk RAID 1 mirroring system - see separate post), with 3COM 3C905 ethernet. This covers the essential stuff for the web server. There also will be a EIDE CD-ROM drive, which I have no details on. Any comments so far? I assume this hardware should be supported OK. We will buy two machines, one to be live on the Web, the other as spare/testbed/office workstation. For this I need to know what video card I can use with X11. Dell offer a "STB nVidia ZX 8MB 3D 2X AGP" and a "ATI Xpert 98D 8MB 3D 2X AGP". After reading the notes on support for video cards, I am thoroughly confused. Can anyone tell me if these are supported, or make a recommendation for a 8MB card? -- Graeme Tait - Echidna To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
