There is more to it than ftp. Your machines are comparing files and maintaining a list of ones that they have touched. The mirror is a raw format file and has all of the changes in cvs form. I have multiple machines and I maintain a local cvsup-mirror. There is a port to do that. I do one slow download (DSL) and everything else is at 100baseT. Ruby's cvsupd points to cvsup16 and is fired up as a cron job. Everything else points to ruby and I run them as I need them. I also maintain ruby's source using ruby's cvsup-mirror.
