This particularly includes x86_64-*, powerpc64-*, *-gnu and *-k*bsd-gnu, but more are to come. libhesiod uses these functions in ./hesiod.c and thus won't build for these systems." I think obsolete (used in the subject of the original email) is too harsh a word for res_mkquery and res_send, but the Solaris manpage I checked does include res_n* .
