The recommended way to do that is to tunnel the connection through openssh --- by default, ForwardX11 is turned on in the sshd (server side) config, but you may need to enable it in the ssh (client side) configuration. If it's all set up correctly, when you ssh into the box, you should find that the DISPLAY environment variable has been set to something like: "localhost:10.0". Then just start X applications from the command line. However, if you really need a remote X login, xdm(1) provides that functionality. You're going to have to enable xdm in /etc/ttys and also edit some config file in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm xdm-config, Xaccess and you'll need to edit Xservers to enable the X server to listen for tcp connections.
