Also, did you make sure you verified your sendmail.cf file to see whether it was still up to date with the new sendmail introduced into 3.x at that moment/at this moment? Sendmail is supposed to be old configfile compatible, but at times it isn't... Also, mergemaster for merging the /etc changes might (have) be(en) a good addition in order to ensure /etc consistency.
