This is mainly to get something in the tree, and avoid a long Bikeshed of Death. However, if what I say here sounds completely whack, let me know quickly. x11/gnome2 and x11/gnome2-lite will remain the same as they are now.=20 x11/gnome2 will remain in sync with the GNOME Desktop as defined by Gnome.org. x11/gnome2-lite will be a subset of x11/gnome2, and will change at the request of re@. x11/gnome2-fifth-toe will change to include the following: graphics/gthumb2 news/pan2 net/gnomeicu2 x11-toolkits/gnome-themes-extras graphics/gimp-devel www/bluefish-devel net/tsclient graphics/sodipodi graphics/inkscape security/seahorse ftp/gftp net/gossip audio/rhythmbox net/straw net/lifearea multimedia/totem irc/xchat2 net/gaim www/galeon2 audio/jamboree x11/gnome2-(power-tools) (as Adam suggested, we may need a better name) will contain the following: devel/gnomevfs-extras sysutils/gnome-pkgview misc/quick-lounge-applet x11/gswitchit editors/dasher net/netspeed_applet editors/gedit-plugins deskutils/gdesklets sysutils/gkrellm2 [www/epiphany-extensions] (only available for GNOME 2.5) net/gnomenetwork net/gnomenetstatus devel/gnome2-hacker-tools will consist of the following: editors/mlview devel/gnomecommon devel/glade2 editors/ghex2 devel/regexxer editors/conglomerate devel/anjuta-devel texproc/meld And finally, editors/gnome2-office (editors/ to follow koffice) will consist of the following: math/gnumeric2 deskutils/mrproject (to be renamed planner when cvs@ does the repo copy) graphics/dia deskutils/glabels mail/evolution editors/AbiWord2 databases/mergeant Here is my thinking behind each meta-port. The Fifth Toe should consist of relatively stable applications that virtually every user would expect to see as part of a desktop. When thinking about applications for this meta-port, consider what MacOS X and Windows offer in their default desktops. =20 Power Tools (or whatever we decide to call it) should be more utilities that power users or advanced users would want. Applications in this category would be found under System Tools in Windows or Applications/Utilities in MacOS X. This category could also contain enhancements to core Desktop or Fifth Toe components (compliments, if you will). Hacker Tools are programmer tools. This meta-port should contain IDEs, interface builders, hacker editors, and other tools to build and maintain code. Office should provide applications that are comparable to those included in Microsoft Office. That is, they should provide the user with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database access, groupware, and project management applications. Any final thoughts on these before I commit these to the tree? I'll hold off on Power Tools until we come to a naming consensus. Thanks.
