From: Richard Kiss To: FreeBSD-Questions Message-ID: Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG I have a FreeBSD box connected to a DSL modem. The modem unpredictably loses sync several times a month. Disconnecting the 10base-T connector from the modem for 15 seconds fixes the problem, so I suspect turning the carrier off would accomplish the same thing. Is there a software way to toggle the carrier? The network card is a Linksys Etherfast LNE100TX version 4.1 (I also have a 2.0), running the dc driver. From the message log: Dec 2 13:57:01 kalamalka /kernel: dc1: port 0x6300-0x63ff mem 0xe0411000-0xe04110ff irq 10 at device 11.0 on pci0 Dec 2 13:57:01 kalamalka /kernel: dc1: Ethernet address: 00:a0:cc:e5:97:aa Dec 2 13:57:01 kalamalka /kernel: miibus1: on dc1 This would allow me to write a script to intermittently check the network and bang on the network card if it appears down. Very useful, since it often goes down when I'm not home.
