FreeBSD already tells you who's password it is changing:

[aslan::gibbs]$ su
su: kerberos: not in root's ACL.
Password:
Warning: imported path contains relative components
aslan# passwd
Changing local password for gibbs.
New password:
...
aslan# passwd root
Changing local password for root.
New password:
...
