I suggest you download ports.tar.gz using: fetch ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/branches/-current/ports.tar.gz That's the current ports tree. You might have updated your ports tree and something went wrong. So, after downloading, do this: # cd /usr # rm -r ports # tar -zxf ports.tar.gz ports.tar.gz will be untarred and would create the directory "ports". Your ports tree would be updated and you won't have any problems. Maybe there's some other way to fix your problem, but, i had this problem and fixed it by this method.
