The -k in that command returns the kernel patch version and the -u returns the userland patch version. It is common for the numbers to diverge, since there is rarely the same number of patches to the kernel as the userland. (Caveat: I don't have my Freebsd machine with me now, but I'm pretty sure kernel p2 and userland p8 are the most recent patch versions. Someone else can advise if this is incorrect.)
