The only way libXaw3d installs .so.7 is if =2Eif ${X_WINDOW_SYSTEM:L} =3D=3D xorg XAWVER=3D 8 =2Eelse XAWVER=3D 7 =2Eendif So I actually got it backwards, and you seem to have X_WINDOW_SYSTEM set to something non-default.
