I am trying to set up sound on my FreeBSD 4.4 box. My sound card is onboard an Iwill KA266 mobo. To set it up I rebuilt the kernel and added the line "device pcm". I rebooted and ran "# dmesg | grep pcm"; it returned "pcm0: port 0xec00-0xecff irq 10 at device 15.0 on pci0" I ran "sh MAKEDEV snd0" in /dev. When I try to test sound server in the K Control Panel, it freezes. When I try to play an MP3 in XMMS I get an error saying "Couldn't open audio". I am using the correct output plugin and it is the only app accessing the sound card. Before I rebuilt the kernel I would get an error on K startup pertaining to /dev/dsp. I no longer get that. Thanks in advance, Jeff Jeter - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Matthew Graybosch" To: "Jeff Jeter" Cc: Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2001 7:36 PM Subject: Re: Sound Difficulties > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > On Thursday 13 December 2001 19:26, you wrote: > > Care to elaborate? > - -- > Matthew Graybosch > http://www.starbreaker.net > GnuPG Key ID: 0x7D488659 > "Sex, Unix, and rock 'n roll" > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- > Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (FreeBSD) > Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org > > iD8DBQE8GUmqcCiK1X1IhlkRAhiwAKCxXNQQAI9LZ4mmBsaewW4himr4kwCeJ0Ri > EBHOktkmMn8kbZzBSyuO2K0= > =33Dr > -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- - ------------------------------------------------------- - -- Matthew Graybosch http://www.starbreaker.net GnuPG Key ID: 0x7D488659 "Sex, Unix, and rock 'n roll" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (FreeBSD) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8GVtIcCiK1X1IhlkRAmr0AJ9XttSpVqj1nfvBnpF4LH8JHTpWXACgiuHJ LZjA2a1fBkWoAAJsIGdEWis= =gWid -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
