Setting rootdevnames[0] = NULL and rootdevnames[1] = "ufs:/dev/md0"
makes the installer start, so the search does not terminate after [0].

A quick grep -r 'rootdevnames' *  also showed
sys/ia64/ia64/sscdisk.c:            rootdevnames[0] = "ufs:/dev/sscdisk0";
