Make sure your fans = are turning freely and quickly. If your have semi-new hardware, you should = be able to check BIOS to find out your fan speed (I think there's software = to check temps and fans as well). I'd like to add that I've seen reboots caused by kernel panics (or something) related to the HDD. If the kernel can't write, then it won't = be in the log. In addition to logging *.* to /var/log/all, have it direct = that information to a remote syslog. You can also redirect console to a = serial port, and capture it there as well (check the handbook and/or google = about setting up a serial console). If the box is rebooting frequently, there is definitely something wrong, = but it shouldn't be too difficult to find a pattern. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks http://www.psknet.com 866.477.5638 =20 > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org=20 > [mailto:owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org] On Behalf Of JJB > Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 8:12 AM > To: Carlos Alarc=F3n; john@day-light.com > Cc: FreeBSD-isp@freebsd.org > Subject: RE: Where i can check a log about the last reboot=20 > time of myfreebsd box >=20 > owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org wrote: > > Hi, im having troubles with a freebsd box, suddenly this fbox > reboots > > many times on a day, every hour at least, :(, i dont know what > could > > be happening, this fbox was working great, i'd like to know if a > log > > on the system could helpme to check if a program or process is > making > > some bad things.. > > With this box i share internet to many clients.. am worried :(. > > thanks in advance. > > > > Carlos Alarc=F3n > > >=20 > A normal running system that suddenly starts rebooting its self is > more that likely an overheating problem caused by a thick layer of > dust on the motherboard chips or early signs of a failing power > supply.
